The Challenge

As one of Los Angeles’ most iconic live venues, The Wiltern hosts a massive variety of events, from concerts and comedy to high-stakes TV tapings. However, their 25-year-old speaker system and legacy mixing console were regularly maxed out on channels. The in-house team needed a flexible system that could adapt instantly to changing floor layouts, provide massive channel headroom, and offer an intuitive workflow that exhausted visiting tour engineers could learn and navigate in minutes.

The Solution

The Wiltern overhauled its audio infrastructure by installing Avid VENUE | S6L consoles at both front-of-house and monitor positions, paired with a new L-Acoustics PA system. Running VENUE | E6L-192 engines with 24C control surfaces and Stage 64 I/O racks, the new setup eliminated headroom anxiety and provided robust snapshot automation for complex productions. Additionally, the team utilizes the Virtual Soundcheck feature as a training tool, allowing engineers to build templates and fine-tune mixes on days off so they are show-ready from the moment they step into the venue.
